Porto Cervo is the most exclusive holiday resort on the
Costa Smeralda, situated on the northeast coast of
Sardinia, near the 46-metre-high Capo Ferro with its
lighthouse. This place came into being in 1962. Porto
Cervo is a district in the community of Arzachena.
The architecture of this village combines ancient
Sardinian traditions with modern elements. Porto
Cervo has developed into a popular holiday destination
of the international jet set with a number of 4 and
5 star hotels available.
Karim Aga Khan IV founded this place as a holiday
resort for exclusive holidaymakers in the 1960s.
Porto Cervo quickly became popular especially among
the wealthy vacationers. A yacht and sailing club has
established itself in the part of the marina which has
been developed over the last few years, while the
south eastern part (Porto Vecchio) remains as it was in
the 1960s.
The landmark of Porto Cervo is the “Stella Maris” a
white church with a turquoise roof. Next to the
entrance door hangs the popular “Madonna Dolorosa”
by El Greco, which you must have seen.
The Costa Smeralda is also renowned for its vast beaches
which seem to be endless. Crystal clear water, fine
sand and excellent weather guarantee an unforgettable
play of colours and extraordinary relaxation by
the ocean
